Our dear friend Olina, of Oli’s cupboard makes the cutest darn ceramic plant pots and hangers. She makes lots of lovely ceramic ware actually - pots and mugs, vases, oil burners, wall décor and much more but her commitment to plants and the natural world make her an eligible candidate for this green living and loving blog which you find here casually fastened to the back page of the Ground Level Works website.
We have just put an order in for some lovely ceramic bath planters for christmas presents which are ideal for succulents and are (thank god) complete with a cork plug to drain any excess water. So clever and a gorgeous design detail too.
Handmade ceramics go through an extensive process of drying, firing, painting and glazing with a risk at every stage that some will be lost along the way and with Olina’s high standards, less than perfect items are quickly culled to ensure only the highest quality items survive through to the sale end.
The customer service is fantastic too – with all items carefully wrapped in shredded paper and bubble wrap before being boxed and sent on to their forever homes. She offers a gift wrapping service too and will send a handwritten note on request.
We have been lucky enough to visit Oli’s studio, where neat batches of beautiful creations adorn the shelves and tables; being worked by Olina herself through every stage of production to ensure quality is never lost or compromised.
The studio, Oli's Cupboard, is nearly as pretty as her instagram, a beautiful account, committed to sharp, well lit photographs of her ceramic ware and occasionally, reveals glimpses into her other talents – magical water colours, sketches and illustrations.
Olina’s page is so pretty, it is like a bath for the eyes, soothing, gentle and so good, it almost looks easy – though anyone who has failed to take a good photograph or gain a 1000 followers on the gram (that's all of us, right?) can tell you – it really isn’t and from someone who has tried to throw a pot, guided by Olina’s wonderful tuition, I can assure you, pottery and ceramics are not easy either; but thats the beauty of great art and design, it inspires others to have a go to realise just how hard it is to make it look easy.
If you are stuck for a truly beautifl gift and would like to buy something unique but are unsure about gambling on an unknown on etsy – I can't promote Oli’s cupboard enough. The goods are gorgeous and the service is spectacular -
How else does one maintain a five star rating on Etsy with over 500 sales?
